26 August, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced a 25-man squad for next month’s clashes against Chile and Bolivia. Notably, star forward Neymar has once again missed out, while Casemiro makes his return.

Neymar, Brazil’s all-time top scorer, had been showing promising form at Santos and was expected to make a comeback. However, just hours before the squad announcement, Neymar experienced discomfort and missed Santos’ most recent match. Unfortunately, this confirms the fears about his fitness.

Neymar last represented Brazil in 2023, participating in four FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (CONMEBOL). During these matches, he scored a brace and provided an assist against Bolivia, totaling 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 games for the national team.

After returning to Santos, Neymar played 19 matches across all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. Despite showing signs of good rhythm recently, his last game against Vasco da Gama ended in a 6-0 defeat, leaving Neymar visibly emotional as he left the pitch with tears.

Since Ancelotti’s arrival as Brazil’s head coach, Neymar’s potential return has been a topic of discussion. However, this time, the rumors did not materialize. With Vinícius Júnior suspended for one match and Rodrygo not selected, Brazil’s right wing options are notably limited for the upcoming fixtures.

The Brazil squad now looks to leverage Casemiro’s experience and fill the gaps left by Neymar’s absence as they prepare for crucial South American clashes.
